God's Word is meant to be examined and applied.The book of Joshua details the many battles Israel fought to settle into the promised land of Canaan. Although God was “giving” this land to the Jews as promised, they still had to pick up their swords and join with God in the fight. After Joshua dies, Israel wanders away from their covenant with God, so He removes his protection from them. Other nations come back to oppress the Israelites and they cry out to God. He will send them a series of leaders or Judges to bail them out of trouble. This happens over and over. In contrast to the disobedience we see in Judges, the book of Ruth serves as an example of what happens when we put God’s Word into practice. It actually works! Ruth is meant to give us an example of what God intended for all of Israel - to be faithful, obedient, and blessed. Read more
